Thought #55: Aunt Claire and Uncle Sydney
So, we’ve been in Florida for a couple days now, after a DRIVE down.  Today we went to visit my Aunt Claire and Uncle Sydney, who are 83 and 87, respectively.  We see them every year.  My dad’s cousin Alan and his wife Linda come down from Madison, and my dad’s other cousin Phyllis and her husband come from down the street.  I love them very much, and we always have such a...

Thought #54: Packing and relaxing
Tomorrow I’m going to Florida.  I love Florida.  It’s so relaxing.  Right now, I’m calmly watching Sex and the City and I’m going to get my nails done in a little bit.  It’s winter break, and life is relaxing and free.  I’m excited to go to Florida. =]

Thought #53: TV
Today, in French class we had a really cool surprise.  This old student who’s now a TV writer in LA was visiting, and he talked to my class.  It was really cool.  He told us all about the writing process and his career and all this really cool stuff.  It was pretty exciting.

Thought #52: Snow
It snowed all day yesterday.  Actually, it was a blizzard.  It is so beautiful. I am absolutely in love with the snow.  I could sit and stare at it for hours.  I want to fall into it, and emerse myself in its feathery pillows.  I want to be a part of the snow, and I want it to be a part of me.  I want to touch the snow, I want to smell the snow, I want to hear the snow.  I actually already have...

Thought #51: Exhileration
Do you ever have those times when you feel so alive?  When you’re surrounded by your friends, and the people you love, and you can’t stop laughing and smiling, and you feel warm and like you just want to live in that pure happiness forever. I just got back from A’s birthday party.  And, I had soooo much fun!  I love times like this.  When I’m simply happy and with my...

Thought #49: Evolution
I find it so interesting when people get upset about culture changing.  Like, people get upset when modern language becomes more commonplace.  But, they don’t realize that language is not devolving, it’s just growing.  There was a time when people spoke in a Shakespearean tongue all the time, but then people started to make their sentence structure a little less fancy.  Did people get...

Thought #47: Colors
Did you know that there are colors that people cannot see? It’s an odd idea.  A little bit hard to grasp.  How can there be things that we don’t see?  How did scientists find them?  In the places where there are these mysterious phantom colors, what do we see instead? I’m sort of fascinated by this idea.  What is there?  Are there these brilliantly beautiful colors that we...

Thought #46: Holidays in the City
Last night we went in the city.  It is unbelievably beautiful during this time of year. There are lights.  Everywhere.  In windows.  On buildings.  In trees.  In windows.  It’s breathtaking.  The christmas trees.  The drippy lights hanging down.  The snowflake-music show on the Saks building.  Inside, there’s snow and wreaths and happy music.  There’s a giant Christmas tree and...

Thought #45: 1969 was a magical year
It really was.  I am utterly fascinated by the fact that so many amazing and monumental things happened during this year.  And, many things to which I feel connected. As the 2009 draws to a close, I’m reflecting on the tear.  It was huge.  Like, really huge.  It was a crazy year, but I grew so much.  This year was so important.  I’ve started to actually grow into a real person,...

Thought #37: Franny and Zooey
Oh my god, I absolutely adore Franny and Zooey.  This book is life.  This book makes me feel at home, at peace.  It makes me feel like everything in the world is good.  It makes me feel comfortable.  It makes me think of the mall and Entertainment Tonight and sitting with E in her room and Grandma and Ellen DeGeneres and Disney Channel and the diner and goodness. I love this book. This book...

Thought #34: Why are gay relationships different...
I don’t understand why being gay is such a big deal.  And no, not in that way where it’s just “you can love whoever you want, because all people are the same.” No, I mean: Why are gay relationships treated so differently? Why are some children not taught about homosexuality the same way they are taught about heterosexuality?  Why do they not find out about it until years later, so that it seems...
