New Year
This was a good year.  A really good year.  This year, I grew so much.  This year, I discovered who I truly am.  This was the year of new love and new friendships and new joy.  This was the year of passion.  This was the year of both endings and beginnings, and the journey itself.   This year was beautiful, and I’m so excited to see what 2011 brings.

2011
This is the end of a decade. I still feel like we’re just at the beginning of this millennium, but really we’re not any more. This is the year I graduate.  I’ve been thinking about this year for so long, and it always seemed so far away and out of reach.  But, now it’s here.  It’s scary and exciting.

Grandma: What are you reading?
Me: Mockingjay. It's part of The Hunger Games series.
Grandma: Oh, what's it about?
Me: It's about this girl Katniss, who lives in the future in this dystopian society where the sadistic government forces two children, called Tributes, from each of the 12 districts to fight to the death in the Hunger Games.
Grandma: Oh... And you like it?
Me: Yeah, I love it. This is the third book, and I want to finish it as soon as I can.
Grandma: And they kill each other? You like that?
Me: Yep.
Grandma: Oh, well, I guess if you like it... That's nice...

My grandma just asked me how I’ve been.  I told her that lately I’ve been busy with a bunch of raves and I’ve been doing a lot of ecstasy.  Then, my mom piped in and said I haven’t been doing as much coke as I used to, though.  Hmmm… Don’t know if Grandma understands sarcasm… Oh but my Poppy saying, “Good night, my love,” to my Grandma before...

Dinner Date
But, she didn’t know what to do.  She was so firmly planted, and she felt that she might explode if she didn’t move.  How can you reconcile two contradictions that are completely twisted into and tied to each other?  It was like when you feel your insides spin underneath your skin, but your body itself is fixed in place, still on the couch. He picked up his hand and took hers...

A little while ago I lost one of my notebooks.
Fortunately, I had typed the majority of what was written in it on my computer.  But, I’m pretty sure that there were a few little notes and phrases that didn’t make it onto a word document.  It’s weird to think of them, lost forever.  I hope that you, whoever you are, you who now hold my notebook, are enjoying what I wrote.  Maybe you can add your own stuff to it, and then maybe...

23. Your opinions on Lady Gaga
I’m not a huge Lady Gaga fan, but I like her and her music a lot.  Hmm, I’d say I’m intrigued by her…

Sports and me have never really mixed, although I dabbled in tennis and karate when I was younger.  Really, my hobby is theatre.  I am never happier than when I am on a stage or backstage.  Every single part of theatre makes me happy.

So, my family isn’t really that religious, but every year, each night of Hanukkah, we read the short responsive reading section of the prayer book.  I’m not exactly sure why, but my dad decided we should, and it’s become one of our little traditions.  I may not be able to read my Torah portion or sing along to all the songs from Hebrew school any more, but the fact that...
